China trip '99: Arrival

Commercial district, Shenzhen

Commercial district, Wuhan

Shenzhen is a Special Economic Zone; it's a city that was built solely to accomodate spillover from Hong Kong, and has succeeded in becoming rich. All we did there was have dinner with a friend of Amy's, who is a General Manager of something or other; when we expressed polite admiration, he explained that if you throw ten rocks in Shenzhen, you'll kill nine general managers and one CEO.

Next day we moved on to Wuhan, where we met Amy's parents.
