China trip '99: KARAOKE!!!

A song for our International Friend

"Thank you! Thank you vurry much!"

... KARAOKE!

Karaoke was the Big Thing in Wuhan. All the restaurants had private rooms with massive karaoke machines, and all the guests seemed to have huge catalogues of music memorized in six different languages.

Yaya's brother made me feel at home with a Canadian song: "Red River Valley". I had no idea it was a Canadian song. Mr Yang sang some traditional Peking Opera, to the resounding applause of all save his wife, who kept calling out "tui piao!" ("We want our money back!").

Fortunately, no one seemed offended when I didn't sing.
